This Annual Work Plan was prepared to further the goals of the second phase of the Road Sector Investment Programme (ROADSIP II) in order to systematically develop and maintain the road network to be able to effectively contribute to the development of the national economy, reduce poverty, generate employment, increase opportunities for the rural people etc.
This was the third Annual Work Plan since the inception of the three Agencies. Projects in this Plan were part of the about US$1.6 billion estimated to be secured under ROADSIP II programme to be funded by the Government of the Republic of Zambia with the support of co-operating Partners
The Annual Work Plan (AWP) for 2009 captures planned expenditures on activities managed by the Road Development Agency (RDA).
The paper is structured as follows: Following the introduction, a review of the 2008 AWP is presented and this is followed by a presentation of the AWP 2009. The rest of the sections discuss the selection criteria, project risks and challenges and finally some conclusions are made.

The AWP 2010 provides detailed distribution by funding sources and summaries of all activities planned for the year. It also shows the funds distribution per province as well as a listing of the planned projects and activities. The strategy is to concentrate on on-going projects with the objective of seeing them to completion. The main types of interventions are classified as Upgrading, Emergencies, Periodic Maintenance, Routine Maintenance, Rehabilitation, Consultancy Services and Capacity building.
