ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS: MBA in Corporate Strategy from the University of Maastricht; Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) obtained from the University of Zambia

KEY COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Bernard has 13 years experience in the water utility industry and has valuable experience in the following key areas: enterprise restructuring and turnaround, project management, due diligence study, Takeover and mergers, Corporate development, Introduction of Performance Management Systems, Transaction structuring, customer relationship management, Revenue Collection and commercialization of water infrastructure.

He was the Managing Director of Nkana Water from November 2001 until January 17th 2007 when he joined Zambian Airways as Chief Commercial Officer. At Nkana Water Bernard helped turnaround the company and increased its Annual revenue from K7billion (2001) to over K50billion at the time of his exit in January 2007.

At Zambian Airways he also helped in the formulation of the Route Development Plan and the acquisition of the two Boeing 737-200 through a US $5.5 million facility that was syndicated by Investrust bank. From 1st January 2009, Mr. Chiwala was at the helm of Sutton Construction Ltd a company he helped found that is involved in the manufacture of pavers and floor tiles. His skills set will be critical at this Strategic Inflection point of RDA as it seeks to commercialize its road infrastructure and the quarries.
