Women in construction sign sub-contract documents

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has signed 22 sub-contracts with local contractors that will execute works on the Petauke-Chilongozi road in Eastern Province.

The Petauke-Chilongozi road project is divided into two Lots namely: Lot 1 from Petauke- Sandwe Gate which is a 118 KM stretch and the main Contractor is China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

RDA Director Communications and Corporate Affairs Masuzyo Ndhlovu said the contract sum for Lot 1 is K 289, 773, 984. 32 and 20 per cent of the contract sum is K57, 954, 796. 86.

Mr. Ndhlovu said this in Petauke yesterday during the launch of the 20 per cent subcontracting for the Petauke-Chilongozi road at Eriboma Lodge in Petauke District.

Lot 2 is from Sandwe Gate – Msoro- Mambwe and the Main Contractor is China Railway Seventh Group Zambia Limited.

Mr. Ndhlovu said the contract sum for Lot 2 is K 284, 233, 809. 24 with K 56, 846, 761. 85 being the 20 per cent threshold for sub-contracting.

Mr. Ndhlovu said that all Zambian registered road contractors were free to apply for participation in the 20 per cent sub-contracting process.

“The RDA is a public institution which is open to all construction firms that are registered with the National Council for Construction (NCC). The Agency, therefore, wishes to inform members of the public that RDA does not engage or require sub-contractors to operate through agents or third parties at any stage of the sub-contracting process,” he said.

He said RDA would not be held liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages arising as a result of any individual or sub-contractor dealing with such agents.

Petauke District Commissioner Venelesi Moyo who was the guest of honour during the launch said the move to empower the sub-contractors was timely and in line with Government policy.

Ms. Moyo said Government was now fully implementing the 20 percent sub-contracting policy on Government funded projects.

She said this would offer an opportunity for skills transfer to the locals and at the same time create jobs.

And RDA Senior Manager Local Contractor Development Samuel Twasa urged the sub-contractors to ensure that they delivered quality works.

Eng. Twasa said it was the desire of the Agency to grow capacity amongst sub-contractors so that in future they could take up main works.

Eng. Twasa said from the time the RDA started administering the 20 per cent sub-contracting policy, it had nominated over 1500 local sub-contractors.

And in a vote of thanks, Zimuso Enterprise and Construction Director Nephitale Banda said that the 20 per cent subcontracting policy had become a reality in Petauke and Lusangazi districts.

Mr. Banda commended the Government for the well thought out vision of empowering local contractors countrywide.

The sub-contractors for Lot 1 are Swift Choice Agencies, Autobase Enterprices, Bebos Construction, Alibaba Trading, Eshalev Investment, Eriboma Enterprices, Safetarade Investment, Thoft Steel General Dealers and Zambeza.


For Lot 2, the sub-contractors are Bejozi General Dealers, DWA Limited, Ndazy Contractors, Build on Construction, New-Tech Contractors, Rhomoba, Mecon Engineering, Brother Willys Construction, ABN Mining and Construction, Zumuso Enterprise, Bramley and Astrim Limited.
