PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA ‘BREAKS GROUND’ FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LUSAKA-NDOLA DUAL CARRIAGEWAY

Full-scale construction of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway is set to start after President Hakainde Hichilema today officiated at the Groundbreaking Ceremony at one of the construction camps in Kapiri-Mposhi District.

Macro Ocean Investment Consortium (MOIC) is undertaking works to upgrade to Dual Carriageway the 327 kilometres Lusaka-Ndola Road and rehabilitation of 45 kilometres of the Masangano-Fisenge-Luanshya Road under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Financing Model.

The scope of works involves: Construction of 327 kilometres Dual Carriageway from Lusaka to Ndola, construction of Kabwe and Kapiri-Mposhi by passes, rehabilitation of 45 kilometres of the Masangano-Fisenge-Luanshya Road, construction of two new toll plazas, construction of two Weighbridges and expansion and improvement of existing bridges along the entire route.

It is expected that once the project is completed, travel times will improve between Lusaka and the Copperbelt province as there will be continuous flow of traffic because of the road being a dual carriageway and in good condition and enhanced safety as a result of dualization.

The implementation of the project will also serve as a springboard for various youths in the country, as it will result in the creation of jobs over 3000 jobs during construction and many more in the project area during the operations and maintenance phase.

Further by law, any Concession on a PPP project is mandated to reserve at least 20% of the works to Zambian contractors. So, Zambian contractors will also benefit from the project.
