Works on upgrading the section of the Mongu-Lusaka Road in Mongu from a two-lane to a four-lane dual carriageway are progressing well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is aimed at improving the current road condition, enhance driving comfort, and provide significant convenience for safe travel of residents along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The <\/a>contractor AVIC International so far has completed asphalt surfacing on the eastern bound lanes from Mongu Traffic Circle to Kambule Secondary School for approximately 1.8 kilometre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contractor has also completed the construction of a 200 metres reinforced concrete (rigid) pavement with a thickness of 250 millimetres at Total Traffic Filling Station.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the rigid pavement at this location has been done to take account of the heavy, slow-moving vehicles and those that are stopping, turning, or accelerating thereby inducing the highest stress levels which has a significant impact on the pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For public interest, high-stress locations on road pavements also include climbing lanes, truck weigh stations, rest areas, and other slow-speed areas such as Police checkpoints, which usually results in serious rutting and deformation of the pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has given special attention to these areas to ensure that high-stress areas deliver the same outstanding performance as other asphalt pavements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the project schedule, the works such as asphalt surfacing on the dual carriageway from the roundabout to Kambule School are scheduled for completion by mid December 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Works such as concrete drainages and concrete walkways shall only be completed by mid-June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design of the dual carriageway also includes traffic islands, concrete sidewalks on both sides, and proper drainage systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As at this update, the contractor has already commenced the cement stabilization of the second layer of the subbase for the western bound lanes and will soon commence the laying of the crushed stone base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is essential to acknowledge that this is not entirely a new project, as the ongoing road projects have been financed by savings from the Mongu-Limulunga Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These savings have facilitated the completion of various roadworks, including the Limulunga Road and its extensions, which connect key areas within Limulunga and other significant routes such as the Muoyo Road and Presidential Avenue and Libonda Roads in Mongu not forgetting the Luanginga and Silanda Bridges and the road that connects those two bridges in Kalabo District.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\r\n
