Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Hon. Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi has today launched a project to construct and rehabilitate township roads in Luanshya on the Copperbelt.

Hon. Eng. Milupi said during the groundbreaking ceremony held in Roan Township that the construction and rehabilitation of 20 kilometres township roads in Luanshya would be undertaken using the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Financing Model.

\u201cThis PPP is an extension of the Concession Agreement we signed with Macro Ocean Investment Consortium Limited, the Concessionaire of the Ndola-Lusaka Dual Carriageway Project.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe groundbreaking which marks the beginning of the rehabilitation and construction of 20 kilometres of township roads. This is to fulfill the commitment we made when we inspected the road infrastructure and proves Government’s commitment to ensuring that all roads in Luanshya District are constructed and rehabilitated,\u201d he said.

Hon. Eng. Milupi assured the people of Luanshya that the project will not only improve the township road network but will also create employment opportunities for the local population.

\u201cIn this regard, the Concessionaire, Macro Ocean Investment Consortium, has been directed to ensure maximum use of local labour, local materials, and local expertise, in line with the Government\u2019s local content policy,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Road Development Agency (RDA) Board Chairman, Eng. Eugene Haazele the occasion was more than ceremonial but a powerful symbol of progress, of partnership, and of our shared commitment to improving the lives of the people of Luanshya.

Eng. Haazele said the Board and Management, was proud to be part of an initiative that speaks directly to the needs of the communities \u2014 an initiative that will bring tangible change to the very streets where people live and work.

\u201cTownship roads are the veins of local development. They connect homes to schools, clinics, markets and other social amenities. They enable economic activity, improve access to services, and foster social inclusion.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor too long, many of our townships have struggled with poor road infrastructure. today, we begin to change that narrative,\u201d he said.

Eng. Haazele said this project was a result of collaboration between the private sector, Government, local authorities, technical experts, and the community.
