The Government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) has placed high priority on the implementation of road development projects in Zambia.

One such project is the spot improvement works on the Mwandansengo-Luampa Road in Luampa District in Western Province. The Agency is currently undertaking holding maintenance works on selected sections of Mwandasengo-Luampa Road.

The Mwandansengo-Luampa Road is an important link between the Lusaka-Mongu Road and Luampa District. It is 21 kilometres in length and also connects to the Namapombwe-Machile Road thereby, providing a link to Mulobezi District.

The road is currently in a poor state, and this has negatively affected the travelling population and increased the vehicle operating costs.

It is for this reason that the RDA Western Regional Office was funded to improve the condition of the Mwandansengo-Luampa Road. The works commenced in November 2023 and are ongoing.
The scope of works is but not limited to the following:

  • Mobilization and camp establishment;
  • Clearing and grubbing;
  • Spot improvement;
  • Light grading;
  • Heavy grading;
  • Installation of culverts;
  • Construction of the 2 kilometres section to all-weather standard road; and
  • Demobilization.

The overall physical progress currently stands at 15%. The progress had been affected by inclement weather conditions. The Agency through the Western Regional Office is mobilizing more pieces of equipment to urgently complete the works especially that the area is experiencing is a dry spell.
