President Hakainde Hichilema has today officially launched construction works to upgrade to bituminous standard 111 kilometres of the Solwezi-Kipushi Road and Border Infrastructure at Kipushi in North Western Province.
Earlier in the morning, the President also launched works to construct and rehabilitate the Mutanda-Kasempa-Kaoma Road.
Once completed, the roads and border infrastructure will strengthen trade facilitation, transportation and regional integration.
The Solwezi-Kipushi Road Project, valued at US$145,270,114.50, will run under a 25-year Concession comprising 3 years of construction and 22 years of operation and maintenance.
The project will be undertaken by Borderway Capital Investments Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated under the Companies Act No. 10 of 2017.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Solwezi, President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led economic growth, saying the New Dawn Government placed a high premium on expanding trade and accelerating development
When completed, the two projects are expected to boost regional trade, lower transportation costs and stimulate economic growth not only in North Western and Western Provinces but the entire country.
