President Hakainde Hichilema has today officially launched construction works to upgrade to bituminous standard 111 kilometres of the Solwezi-Kipushi Road and Border Infrastructure at Kipushi in North Western Province.

Earlier in the morning, the President also launched works to construct and rehabilitate the Mutanda-Kasempa-Kaoma Road.

Once completed, the roads and border infrastructure will strengthen trade facilitation, transportation and regional integration.

‎The Solwezi-Kipushi Road Project, valued at US$145,270,114.50, will run under a 25-year Concession comprising 3 years of construction and 22 years of operation and maintenance.

The project will be undertaken by Borderway Capital Investments Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated under the Companies Act No. 10 of 2017.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Solwezi, President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led economic growth, saying the New Dawn Government placed a high premium on expanding trade and accelerating development

‎When completed, the two projects are expected to boost regional trade, lower transportation costs and stimulate economic growth not only in North Western and Western Provinces but the entire country.
